Most massage treatments will relax you. With a relaxation massage, relaxing you is the only aim. For this reason, it is one of the most complete and indulgent massages you can have. We are not looking to ‘fix your back’ ‘increase your shoulder range of motion’ etc. It is for you to be totally indulgent and simply be – relax!

Definitions vary, but in here Australia, a relaxation massage is usually a full-body treatment involving soft music, soft lighting and aromatherapy oils. We will give you a massage using long, luxurious massage strokes, gentle kneading and rolling of skin and muscle, and perhaps some rhythmic rocking from side to side. You can choose to have a variety of essential oils at no extra charge to you included in the base oil to add that little bit extra to your experience. We will ‘shut out the light’ by placing a lavender and wheat filled eye soother over your eyes to allow you to slip that little bit deeper into the peace this style of massage affords.

Relaxation massage is a passive treatment. You won’t be stretched or manoeuvred into any yoga-like positions, as you are, for example, in Thai massage or some myofascial release manoeuvres. You just lie there and receive it. This is the massage to choose if you just want to chill out and be pampered and spoiled.

What is Relaxation Massage good for?

A good relaxation massage relieves stress and tension in your muscles and will leave you oozing with a sense of well being.

Relaxation massage achieves this because of the general benefits of massage: it improves your circulation, so your organs and skin get more oxygen; it moves fluid through your lymphatic system. A relaxation massage encourages your body to digest its food, and get rid of its toxins. It will help you to sleep better. A massage will also help destress any muscles knots, soothing your aches and pains.

Before you go

Because of the differences in the definition of the “relaxation massage”, it is a good idea to talk to your therapist beforehand. Some people book in for a relaxation massage then ask for backs, necks and more to be fixed in a deep tissue style or want a full body ‘brutal massage’. It is your time, be clear and we will do our best to deliver the treatment you have sort.

If you have a particular type of music on CD you enjoy bring it along and we will however happily play it if that is your desire.

Precautions

Before any massage treatment, avoid large meals or alcohol. Drink plenty of water, which will help your body to flush the toxins out of your body. It’s also a good idea to give yourself plenty of time either side of the massage, so that you don’t feel rushed.
