Massage provides many benefits for a pregnant woman. With the amazing body changes extra stress and tension is placed within the muscular-skeletal system due to hormonal changes and a shift in your centre of gravity. Having regular massage can assist you.

Experiencing massage is a wonderful way to go throughout your pregnancy. You nurture yourself, your baby, honouring the amazing changes taking place.

Massage during pregnancy can reduce peripheral swelling, helps to prevent insomnia, reduces muscle cramps and back pain, and soothes the nervous system.

Pregnancy massage can be done in many different ways. Pregnant women may lie on their sides to be massaged, and they can actually lie on their bellies. We use a specially designed cushion system that makes it possible for our expectant mums to lie on their stomachs and feel relaxed and comfortable.

After the first 25 weeks of pregnancy, lying flat on your back may cause pressure on deep blood vessels due to the growing baby; thereby reducing some circulation. To avoid this a small soft wedge or pillow can be used to ensure that you are lying in either a comfortable side-lying position or with your hip cushioned and slightly elevated. Body pillows are especially effective for the side-lying position. Pregnant women can also be massage for short periods of time in a semi-sitting position using pillows for support.

We offer the use of a pregnancy bolster during our pregnancy massages. This allows clients to safely lay face down – and most jump at the chance.

Keeping a good level of fitness and receiving regular massages during pregnancy may shorten labour time and make the return of your optimal fitness easier. During labour, massage is an effective pain relief tool. Ask about how your partner or birth buddy/girlfriend can massage you during labour. We are happy to show you beneficial natural techniques that can be used to have a rewarding birth experience.

Massage can be performed anytime depending on how much discomfort you are experiencing. Once a week during the second trimester is great, and twice a week or more, during the third trimester is wonderful. Massage helps ease recurring problems during pregnancy, such as sciatica, leg cramps, and back and shoulder pain. It is up to you.

Massage during pregnancy is a terrific way to honour and enjoy this magical time in your life.
